On March 2, 2012, the Barskoon-based Regional Information Center of Kumtor Operating Company will host a training session on pest management for members of the Jety-Oguz and Ton communities.
The trainers will include representatives of the Karakol Inter-District Office of the Agro-Biological Center at the KR Ministry of Agriculture and the head of the Barskoon Fruit Tree Nursery.
This seminar will enable the participants to learn more not only about the fundamentals of biological control and crop and fruit-tree disease prevention but also about the methods of raising the level of crop yield. The trainers will explain details of organizing environment-friendly production, as well as of pruning, treatment and surgery techniques for apricot and apple trees common in the Jety-Oguz and Ton districts.
The pest management training is one of the events planned for the next six months by the Business Advisory Service (BAS), which is being implemented by EBRD in collaboration with Kumtor Operating Company. Under this program, various experts will train local residents in handicraft and farming innovations. These sessions are designed to improve the economic potential of the region and launch sustainable development projects.
Detailed information about the seminars and registration procedures can be obtained from the officers of the KOC Regional Information Center.
Participation in the EBRD seminars and all kinds of services offered by the Center to the communities is free of charge.
