Kumtor Gold Company CJSC continues with the activities required to commence development of the Togolok gold deposit located at 200 kilometers from the Kumtor mine.
The Vice President of Kumtor Gold Company Operations Kubanychbek Turdukozhoev noted that only 5 months have passed since receiving the license for the development of Togolok deposit and exploration works at Dzhangart area and even that the specialists have done a lot of work.
” During the geological exploration of the Togolok deposit, 1,424 meters of tunnels were excavated by Soviet specialists between 1978 and 1982. Work is currently underway to reinforce and increase the length of the adit tunnels. The access of 230 meters of tunnel which had been closed for more than 40 years now has been restored. Light has also been brought into the adit and a ventilation system has been installed. Not far from the adit has been set up a camp for the mining foremen working on a rotational basis, where the necessary conditions for rest and meals have been created,“ he said.
Drilling work has been underway at Togolok since November 2023 and underground work has been underway since December, with approximately 4 tons of ore samples expected to be recovered from the ground. A total of 40 areas of the mine are planned to be drilled and sampled. Currently, drilling of 22 wells has been completed and samples from 17 wells have been already sent for laboratory tests.
At the same time, work is underway to lay a technical road, widen its narrow sections and strengthen the supports of existing bridges. These works will be continued including construction of new bridges.
For reference: The license for the development of the Togolok gold deposit and exploration works at the Dzhangart area was issued in August 2023.
According to Soviet geologists’ estimates, gold reserves at the Togolok deposit are about 17 tons. The main purpose of the current work is to confirm the information on reserves and determine an economically efficient method of gold mining.
In addition, the geological exploration works will begin at the Dzhangart area in this year.
