At the altitude of over 4000 meters above sea level, at the Kumtor Mine, nature continues to amaze us with its wonders.

Recently, the Snow Lotus (Saussurea involucrata) a rare and astonishingly beautiful flower, which is included in the Endangered Species List of the Kyrgyz Republic, started blooming at the mine site.

Snow Lotus or Wrapped Saussurea, is an alpine plant, which grows at altitudes of 3000-4500 meters above sea level on cliffs and rocky slopes. This rare flower is very hard to come by in wildlife due to its limited habitat. However, here at the Kumtor Mine, where environmental regulations are strictly observed, the Snow Lotus found its blooming spot.

Some nations believe the flower to be sacred, which makes this occurrence very special.

We should also note that earlier in spring this year, swans were spotted in one of the ponds in the vicinity of the mine. This is yet another confirmation that Kumtor operates in full compliance with high environmental standards.
