Kumtor Gold Company conducted a workshop for its potential suppliers, including business people and commercial organizations, in Bishkek on September 27, 2017, with the information support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of and establish contacts with Kumtor’s potential partners as well as to expand the bill of goods and services expected to be supplied to the company.
Attending the session were 74 representatives of 66 organizations active in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. During the event, employees of KGC’s Supply Department described the company’s procurement policy. More specifically, the participants learned more about the company’s local procurement strategy as well as about the procedures governing the purchase of goods and services and selection of suppliers. Also, the company informed the participants on KGC’s projects designed to encourage small and medium-sized businesses across the Issyk-Kul region.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed its activities and projects as well as explained procedures of awarding certificates of compliance and certification procedures adopted by the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) for exporting goods to EEU member countries.
The event has helped business representatives gain a better understanding of Kumtor Company’s procurement strategy and requirements that suppliers should meet for purposes of ensuring long-term, effective and mutually beneficial cooperation.
It should be noted that a special issue of the corporate newsletter titled “In Touch” was prepared for this event.
It will be remembered that the Local Procurement Strategy is available on the company’s website, Procurement & Logistics.
This information workshop was the third in the series of events planned to facilitate the company’s contacts with its potential suppliers. The company is planning to conduct similar workshops for regional suppliers based in Issyk-Kul province.
