Kumtor Company Sponsors New Facilities and Fifth National Tournament at Saruu

During the recent Kurmanait celebrations, new infrastructure facilities were officially inaugurated in the village of Saruu, Issyk-Kul province, on October 4, 2014. Also, the village was the venue of the National Tournament.

The fifth tournament at Saruu dedicated to the memory of the sportsman Rustan Shambetov, who was killed on April 7, 2010, in Ala-Too Square in Bishkek, involved three sports this year: Graeco-Roman wrestling, volleyball and futsal.

The official opening of the new stadium at Saruu was attended by the Special Envoy of the Kyrgyz Government in the Issyk-Kul region, Emilbek Kaptagayev; representatives of the district administration and ayil okmotu, residents of the village, numerous guests and participants in the competition from across the Kyrgyz Republic. The fence of the stadium was built at the expense of the Issyk-Kul Development Fund sponsored by Kumtor Company which also contributed 3 million soms to erect stadium stands. In addition, there was contribution of local sponsors. The local contractor, Saruu-Stroi JSC, carried out all construction operations.

The opening of the Ajayip municipal sewing workshop where all equipment, from sewing machines to scissors, had been purchased with the support of Kumtor Gold Company was greeted with enthusiasm by the Saruu women. The shop is supposed to provide 25 jobs and produce a great variety of goods, including felt toys, clothes, bed linen and complete sets of trousseaus.

The Special Envoy of the Kyrgyz Government in the Issyk-Kul region, Emilbek Kaptagayev, said that what we have witnessed is social mobilization. “There is general understanding among the young people that the path of extremism and radicalism will never lead to the resolution of outstanding problems. This stadium and the sewing shop are real products of this mobilization,” he commented.
